Astronomy

CAITHNESS offers clear skies with great views of the constellations
in the northern hemisphere.
There are a vast number of stars in the
night sky many of which can only be seen under dark conditions.
Caithness has two towns and a few villages, therefore the skies are
truly dark - allowing for observations of a wide number of stars and
the beauty of the night sky to be seen.
Whether your here for the Sun, the Moon,
the Planets or Deep Sky objects we can offer clear skies free from
light pollution.
The moon can be seen well with
binoculars but obviously telescopes are preferred.
When observing the Planets, telescopes are essential for seeing the
detail on planets.
Also there are regular opportunities to
see the Aurora borealis - the northern lights - in autumn and
winter. Not to mention the meteorites, shooting stars.
Why not come along and explore the
countryside by day and the skies by night. |
